November 2006

 

Wednesday 11/8, 15 (5 P.M. - 9 P.M.)

FINISHING - A hands on course. Learn to choose and apply a finish for your project.

Tuesday 11/21 - (9 A.M. - 3 P.M.)

PICTURE FRAMES - Learn basic frame construction. Students will learn several techniques in frame construction.

Saturday 11/11 - (9 A.M. - 3 P.M.)

CARVING A SPOON - Make a wooden spoon which may be used for salads or other things. Students will learn to use a band saw and carving knives.

11/28, 29, 30, 12/1 and 2 (9A.M. - 3 P.M.)

STEP-BACK CUPBOARD - Make a simple, multi shelved colonial style cupboard in which the top part steps back from the base. One case construction. Dovetail joinery is involved.

December 2006

 

Wednesday 12/6, 13, 20 (5 P.M. - 9 P.M.)

STEAM BENDING A TOBOGGAN - Create some winter fun! Make a large, sled-type toboggan which seats several people. The curved front will be made by steam bending solid wood slats.

Saturday 12/9 (9 A.M. - 3 P.M.)

POWER TOOL SAFETY - Learn to operate large power tools safely. A pre-requisite class for people who would like to use shop during shop privilege time.

JANUARY 2007

 

Tuesday Jan 16 (5 P.M. - 9 P.M.)

MORTISE AND TENONS - Students will learn several methods of cutting this joint. Hand tool and power tools.

Wednesdays (Jan 10, 17, 24, and 31 (5 P.M. - 9 P.M.)

WORKBENCH - A two-month evening project. Build a traditional cabinet-maker's work bench.

Wednesdays, February 7, 14, and 28 (5 P.M. - 9 P.M.)

WORKBENCH - A two month evening project (Part 2)

Tuesday, February 20 - Saturday, February 24 (9 A.M. - 3 P.M.)

BOOKCASE - (A beginners' class) Students will build their own small bookcase using dovetail joinery and applied moldings.

Tuesday, Feb. 27 (5 P.M. - 9 P.M.)

Dovetail ClassINTRO TO DOVETAILS - Learn how to lay out and cut dovetails by hand. A very beautiful and strong woodworking joint, used for cabinets, drawers, cases, chests, etc.

MARCH 2007

 

Tuesday, March 6 (9 A.M. - 3 P.M.)

INTRODUCTION TO CHIP CARVING - Beginners basic chip carving technique. Geometric designs for use in decorating wooden projects.

Wednesdays 3/7, 14 and 21 (5 P.M. - 9 P.M.)

BOX BUILDING - Learn several techniques on how to build your own basic wooden box. These techniques could be applied to the construction of jewelry boxes, blanket chests, candle boxes, etc.

Tuesday 3/13 (5 P.M. - 9 P.M.)

INTRO TO LASER ENGRAVING - Learn how to use the computer and laser engraver to personalize your projects, such as wooden pens, picture frames, plaques, awards, etc. THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR THIS INTRODUCTORY SESSION.

Saturday 3/17 (9 A.M. - 3 P.M.)

TURKEY CALL - Make a traditional slate turkey call using a hard wood case and slate.

Tuesday, 3/20 (9 A.M. - 3 P.M.)

WOODEN BENCH - Students will use hand tools to build their own wooden bench.

March 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 (9 A.M. - 3 P.M.)

CORNER CABINET - Build a small corner cabinet that hangs on the wall. Students will learn various construction techniques to build this project.

APRIL 2007

 

Tuesday 4/10 (5 P.M. - 9 P.M.)

MAKE A WOODEN HAND PLANE - Learn how to make your own working wooden hand plane.

Wednesdays 4/4, 11, and 18 (5 P.M. - 9 P.M.)

POWER TOOL SAFETY - Learn how to operate large power tools safely. A prerequisite class for shop use.

April 24, 25, 26, 27, and 28 (9 A.M. - 3 P.M.)

SMALL COUNTRY TABLE - Learn to construct your own simple table.

Saturday 4/21 (9 A.M. - 3 P.M.)

INTRO TO THE WOOD LATHE - Learn the basics of lathe turning. Open the doors to the wonderful world of wood turning.

One day class - Adult $35.00/Student* - $5
One Evening Class - Adult $25.00/Student - $5
Two evening classes - Adult $50.00/Student - $10
Three evening classes - Adult $75.00/Student - $10
Four evening classes - Adult $100/Student - $25
Four-five day seminar - Adult $250.00/Student $25

*These student fees apply to high school and college students and all others under age 21.

Some classes require a materials fee. A $10 deposit will be required to secure your space in a class. Please register no later than a week before class. A $10 to $20 late fee will be applied to late registration depending on the class.
